Blade Runner 2099 Sequel Series Firms Up For Prime Video

Blade Runner 2099, a live-action sequel series to Blade Runner and Blade Runner 2049, is heading to Prime Video. Deadline was the first to report on this series currently in development for the streaming service.

Director Ridley Scott announced in an interview back in November 2021 that a series was already in the works, and that a pilot was already written--though no word of its intended home was revealed a few months ago. According to Deadline, Blade Runner 2099 will be executive produced by Scott, along with writer Silk Luisa (Shining Girls). Scott may also direct the series or at least a few episodes, though that isn't yet confirmed. Blade Runner 2099 doesn't yet have a premiere date. Per the title, it's possibly a safe guess that Blade Runner 2099 takes place five decades after the 2017 film sequel.

In 2021, the franchise expanded to an animated series titled Blade Runner: Black Lotus, which hit Adult Swim's Toonami lineup last fall. The English-language cast includes Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist, Underwater), Will Yun Lee (Rampage), Samira Wiley (The Handmaid's Tale), and Brian Cox (Succession). The show can be watched with a Japanese dub on Crunchyroll.
